EMDR Therapy in Farnham, Surrey

Trauma Therapy for PTSD, Anxiety and High-Functioning Adults

If you are looking for EMDR therapy in Farnham, Woking, Guildford or the wider Surrey area, you may be someone who appears to cope well on the outside — yet internally feels anxious, reactive, overwhelmed or stuck.

You may understand your past logically, yet your body still responds as if it is happening now.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based trauma therapy that helps the brain process distressing experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming in the present.

I offer EMDR therapy in Farnham for adults experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, relational trauma and long-standing negative beliefs rooted in earlier experiences.

What Can EMDR Help With?

EMDR is recommended by NICE for PTSD and is widely used in trauma therapy. It can also be effective for:

  • Childhood trauma
  • Sexual trauma
  • Birth trauma
  • Relational trauma
  • Attachment wounds
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Phobias
  • Shame and low self-worth
  • Medical trauma
  • Intrusive memories

Many of my clients are competent, capable adults who have achieved a great deal — yet privately struggle with self-doubt, hypervigilance, emotional reactivity or a persistent sense of “not enough.”

EMDR helps address the root of these patterns.

How Does EMDR Therapy Work?

When something overwhelming happens, the nervous system can become flooded. Instead of the memory being fully processed, parts of it remain stored in a raw, unintegrated form.

This can lead to:

  • Emotional reactions that feel disproportionate
  • Ongoing anxiety or a sense of threat
  • Negative core beliefs (“I’m not safe,” “It was my fault,” “I’m not good enough”)
  • Physical responses such as tension, shutdown or panic

During EMDR sessions, we use bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) while you briefly focus on aspects of a memory. This supports the brain’s natural processing system to complete what was interrupted at the time.

Over time:

  • The emotional intensity reduces
  • The body response softens
  • Negative beliefs shift
  • The memory feels resolved rather than raw

EMDR does not remove memories. It allows them to be integrated so they no longer dominate your present.

Is EMDR Right for You?

EMDR therapy may be helpful if you:

  • Have tried talking therapy but still feel stuck
  • Experience flashbacks, intrusive thoughts or body memories
  • Notice repeating patterns in relationships
  • Carry deep shame or harsh self-criticism
  • Want trauma therapy that works both cognitively and physically

If you are seeking EMDR therapy in Farnham, Woking, Guildford or Surrey, we would begin with an assessment session to explore whether this approach feels right for you.

EMDR Therapy with Me in Farnham

As an experienced trauma therapist in Surrey, I integrate EMDR within a wider trauma-informed and attachment-aware framework.

Clients often describe me as:

  • Warm and steady
  • Emotionally attuned
  • Calm under pressure
  • Clinically clear without being overwhelming

The therapeutic relationship is central. EMDR works best when you feel safe, understood and respected.

I am fully trained in EMDR and engage in ongoing professional development and supervision to ensure ethical, safe and effective practice.

A Safe, Structured and Trauma-Informed Approach

Safety and pacing are central to my work.

Before any trauma processing begins, we focus on stabilisation and nervous system regulation. We build internal resources so you feel grounded and supported.

You remain in control at all times. You do not need to recount every detail aloud.

We pause whenever needed. EMDR is powerful, but it is never rushed.
